According to most Eurasian lynx researchers, the species is mainly characterised by solitary behaviour, except for the prolonged period when a mother stays with her kitten of the year. In our long‑term study of the Eurasian lynx, step by step and quite successfully, we aim to demonstrate a much greater degree of sociality in the species than previously assumed by other specialists.
We have already published several posts on this topic in this blog, as well as relevant information in our book (Sidorovich, 2022). Recently, in Naliboki Forest (central‑western Belarus), we obtained another interesting result. For at least about ten days, an adult male lynx was registered staying together with a mother lynx that had three kittens in a large treefall. It is also noteworthy that this same mother lynx was recorded mating with the male in late February and early March of the year in exactly the same place. In late May we found her three small kittens in a lair within the same treefall.
