Dear Friends!

Just a small reminder: if you have ever wanted to visit us and join the wolf denning behaviour study, this spring is a perfect moment. We are looking for a few dedicated wolf enthusiasts who would like to come to our field station and take part in our long‑term research in the Naliboki Forest, north‑western Belarus.

From 20 April to 20 June, we will be conducting intensive daily searches for wolf dens. After 20 May, most of the work will shift toward camera‑trapping denning behaviour, especially during pup relocations. We have extensive experience in this field (e.g., Sidorovich & Rotenko, 2019). Over more than 20 years, we have located 96 active dens with pups. This spring we are finishing preliminary checks across the entire Naliboki Forest (about 2,000 km²), and current signs suggest at least 10 breeding wolf groups. The season looks very promising.

This is hands‑on work in a wild, beautiful, and sometimes challenging environment — ideal for people who truly want to understand wolves in their natural habitat.

Travel & Accommodation

Despite common stereotypes, Belarus is currently not the worst place to visit, especially for a wildlife stay. Our field station is located deep in the forest, and we have comfortable facilities to host guests.

Travel is straightforward:

  • Entry to Belarus is visa‑free
  • Fly to Vilnius Airport (Lithuania)
  • From Vilnius, take a bus to Lida, Iwie, or Ashmiany
  • We will pick you up at the bus station
  • The return trip follows the same route

Border crossing is usually smooth and takes up to two hours in total.
